چکیده

Microstructure-controlled and fully-dense ZrB2 HfB2 composites were elaborated by Spark Plasma Sintering with two different amounts of SiC (20 30 vol%) added to improve their oxidation resistance using optimized sintering parameters. Oxidation several samples in air plasma conditions, at 1000 Pa total pressure from 1800 K up 2600 K, was carried out. The mass variation during duration 300 s on a temperature plateau followed. A four-step mechanism, identified four singular behaviors depending the ranges, proposed detailed. normal emissivity measured pre-oxidized high values around 0.90 obtained 1300 1900 due presence oxide layer formed conditions this is interesting for aerospace applications.

Air Plasma Sprayed Bond Coat Oxidation Behavior and its Resistance to Isothermal and Thermal Shock Loading

An experimental investigation was conducted to find the effect of spraying method of coating of Thermal Barrier Coatings (TBCs) on their oxidation behaviour and resistance to various thermal loading. Isothermal and thermal shock tests were performed in order to study oxidation behaviour of air plasma sprayed Bond Coat (BC) and assess its effect on TBCs lifetime under the stated loadings. Specim...

Applications of ultrasonic NDT to aerospace composites

Whilst existing composite aircraft designs carry additional weight to mitigate the risk of undetected nonconformance to design, new non-destructive characterisation (NDC) methods offer a leaner future for composite designs through complete verification of conformance. The structural-integrity philosophy for composites in current in-service aircraft does not directly accommodate any benefit from...

High Thermal Conductivity SiC/SiC Composites for Fusion Applications

SiC-SiC composites offer excellent potential for fusion energy as well as numerous commercial applications. High manufacturing cost and very low through-the-thickness (transverse) thermal conductivity (below 15 W/mK) hinders wider applications of SiC/SiC composites. To overcome these obstacles, a low-cost, Chemical Vapor Reaction (CVR) process was developed to fabricate crystalline, high purity...

PROTECTION AGAINST OXIDATION OF C/SiC COMPOSITES BY CHEMICAL VAPOUR DEPOSITION OF TITANIUM DIBORIDE: DEPOSITION KINETICS AND OXIDATION BEHAVIOUR OF FILMS PREPARED FROM TiCl4/BCl3/H2 MIXTURES

Ti82 coatings were deposited by hydrogen reduction of Tic14 and BCl3. The objective was to correlate process variables with thermodynamic equilibrium calculations, deposition kinetics, coating stucture and properties. Particular emphasis was given to obtaining deposits having appropriate oxidation resistance to protect CISiC composites. Fi lms, obtained at moderate temperature (800°C), acted as...

The synthesis and characterization of Ti40Zr20Hf20Fe20 (atom %) alloy, in the form of rods (f = 2 mm), prepared by arc-melting, and subsequent Cu mold suction casting, is presented. The microstructure, mechanical and corrosion properties, as well as in vitro biocompatibility of this alloy, are investigated. This material consists of a mixture of several nanocrystalline phases. It exhibits excel...
